Scottish Connections Shine at Business Gathering in Washington D.C.

Scotland’s international business network was once again on display in Washington D.C. this week as the Scottish Business Network (SBN) brought together business leaders, members of the Scottish community and friends of Scotland for a Scottish Business Gathering.

Hosted at the offices of FS Vector, the gathering provided an opportunity business leaders to connect, share experiences and explore the relationships that help link Scotland with the United States. While the event was informal, the conversations reflected the wider role that international networks can play in supporting Scottish businesses and strengthening connections between Scotland and key global markets.

A particular focus was the relationship between Scotland and the United States. John J. Devine, LVO, OBE, who leads on Scottish Government activity in the US, shared his perspective on Scotland-US connections and the opportunities that exist through continued engagement between the two countries.

His contribution provided an insight into the institutional relationships supporting Scotland’s presence in the United States, while highlighting the importance of maintaining strong connections across business, government and the wider Scottish community.

SBN Ambassador Eric McAleer also shared his experience of building a global company from the United States. His story offered a practical perspective on international entrepreneurship, as well as the role that Scottish heritage and connections can continue to play when building a business on the global stage.

For SBN, these personal experiences are an important part of its approach to international business networking. The value of a global community is not simply measured by the number of people within it, but by the relationships, knowledge and opportunities that can be shared between members.

The evening also demonstrated the importance of local organisers and hosts in creating those connections. SBN thanked Nita Somasundaram for her support in organising the gathering, while FS Vector provided its Washington D.C. offices as the setting for the event.
