Fenway Park or Hampden Park? The Tartan Army Teaches Boston How to Cheer
Fresh off the absolute euphoria of Scotland’s opening World Cup victory over Haiti at Boston Stadium, the Tartan Army decided to sample a bit of traditional Americana. Instead of quietly nursing their post match celebrations, thousands of kilted supporters marched through the city to Fenway Park to watch the Boston Red Sox face the Texas Rangers. What followed was a joyous, cross sporting culture clash that the home of baseball will not forget in a hurry.
As captured in viral social media footage, the sheer volume of the chants completely took over the stadium. The iconic Fenway video boards spent much of the night panning across a sea of bouncing fans, waving Saltires, and standing on the concourse tables to lead massive call and response chants.
Even the traditional eighth inning rendition of Sweet Caroline provided a moment of comedy. Whilst Neil Diamond’s anthem is heavily associated with rivals south of the border back in the United Kingdom, the Tartan Army graciously joined in for a special, one night only performance, much to the delight of the home crowd.
The travelling support has proven once again that they are the best ambassadors Scotland could ask for, bringing peerless humour and good vibes wherever they roam.
